MWENEZI SWITCH ON CEREMONY
The Switch on ceremony was a complete success held at Shazhaume Primary School situated in Mwenezi district, Masvingo Province. It was officiated on the 7th of April 2016 by the deputy minister of Energy and Power Development Cde Tsitsi Muzenda. ZETDC Southern Region officials and Rural Electrification Agency were also present. The deputy minister emphasises upon the issue of vandalism saying that the Mwenezi community should unite against such ill practices. Vandalism and theft of ZETDC equipment carries a heavy sentence.
ZETDC Southern region took advantage of the gathering and established an enthralled tent and banners that enabled them to communicate with the new enthusiastic customers of Mwenezi. As a news site that have been connected with electricity ZETDC southern marketing team did three awareness campaigns with the District Administrator, councillors and the community giving them electricity safety tips, saving electricity and vandalism of ZETDC equipment a day before the official switch on ceremony.
Promotional materials were being given to the Shazhaume primary pupils who were entertaining the crowd. The switch on ceremony has established a new and higher level of development for the community. Southern region, Eng. R Rupere represented the general manager, also in attendance was the HR and Admin manager Ms J. Tinago and the Gweru District Sales manager Mr L Makumbe .The deputy Minister Muzenda went on to commend the Rural Electrification Agency and ZETDC for a job well done as they have proven to be tangibly working towards the ZIMASSET goal of developing Zimbabwe.
A total of 12km of 11kV line, 50 Kva 11-0.4kv substations and 1.5 km of LT line of MV lines were constructed. A number of institutions benefited from this project which includes Shazhaume Primary School and Budirirai Secondary School in Mwenezi District. “22 primary schools have been connected, 21/41 secondary schools, 13/18 clinics and 6 irrigations have been connected in Mwenezi district she said.
